Description:
Mature males can reach a shoulder height of 6 feet and a weight
of 900kg. The gestation period is about 9 months and usually only
one young is born. The young reaches sexual maturity in its third
year of life. The life span is about 25 years.
Behavior:
It is gregarious, associating in herds of 4-8 up to 30. The herd
is lead by a dominant male. They are active largely at dawn or dusk
and lie up under tree cover by day. They feed by grazing and are
therefore restricted to the vicinity of natural food consisting
of grasses, supplemented by herbs, shrubs, climbers and the foliage
of a few forest trees.

Habitat:
Tropical forest and woodland interspersed with clearings.
