Description :
This species resembles the Ganges Gharial (Gavialis gangeticus),
but its head tapers more gradually to a narrow snout and it lacks
the bulbous snout tip that male Ganges Gharials have. The coloration
is dark brown with indistinct black bars across the back. Uniquely
among crocodilians, the eyes have yellow-brown irises.
Status in wild :
This species is extremely threatened. It may now be extinct in southern
Thailand and on the verge of extinction in Malaysia. Threats include
illegal hunting and habitat destruction.
Distribution :
South East Asia.
Habitat :
In fresh water swamps, lakes and rivers.
Reproduction :
Lays 20-60 eggs
